Esther Haamke (1986) studied illustration and fashion design. After running her own clothing label, where color, pattern, and sport played a central role, she gradually shifted her focus to painting.

Today, Esther creates paintings inspired by sports fields. She is fascinated by the way humans establish rules, boundaries, and lines in order to play a game. These carefully constructed systems contrast with nature, which follows its own rhythms and laws. Although we cultivate and shape the landscape, nature remains an active participant—constantly adapting, reclaiming, and influencing the spaces we create.

Through her work, Esther explores the relationship between human order and natural forces, using sports fields as a visual language to reflect on structure, control, and coexistence.

Esther first presented this body of work in the exhibition Spelregels (“Rules of the Game”) in Haarlem. She is also a member of the artists’ association Kunstenaarsvereniging Sint Lucas.
